Water

Water really defines our strategy out here in the desert. We are forced to plan our day's hike around sparse water sources that are often 15-20+ miles apart. We have to restrict our water consumption and hygiene when we know it's a long hike to the next water source. We try, often unsuccessfully, to relax during the high heat of the day so as to conserve as much water as possible and not die from heat exhaustion. Some of the water we have come across is questionable by most civilized standards (i.e. green, murky, and labeled "not potable. For horse consumption only."), but we drink it anyway...and it is delicious! Thank goodness for our water filter...although some of the hikers we met drink right from the wells and creeks. What champions. Water really drives us around here.

Liars. It was far more than a mile away.
